A Post About Doors, Just Kidding It’s About The Roof
I’m STILL working on the roof.
Between rain and lack of time this roof is taking FOREVER. Well maybe not that long it just feels like it. But good news is I’m closer to being finished with cleaning and taping.
So far I only had one leak - around the toilet vent. But I’m not sure if it’s tape related because the vent is open to the outside and sideways rain like we had recently could definitely get inside. I plan to tape another bigger perimeter around it on the roof and perhaps Dicor the edges then get a piece of waste pipe and stick it in there from the underside to see if it still leaks.
I’ve decided not to lift the edges of the “attic” fans because they don’t show any signs of having leaked. Instead I’ll scrape off the loose pieces and put the roofing tape around it’s perimeter. Time will tell if that was a wise move or not.
I don’t know what I will do about the dips at the cabover that result in puddling. I might try to make some roof rafters to help raise it a bit or just put some plywood up there to help shape it. Something tells me that’s just an inherit issue with cabovers.
I’m definitely NOT messing with the crinkly right upper corner at the curbside cabover. It’s a nightmare. There’s what look like bullet holes and what looks like it sustained a crash at one point. The best course would be to remove it and replace the skin. I have ZERO desire for that action.
So I’m done for today. I got in around three hours of scraping and taping. Just need to work a little more curbside, across the cabover front and a little more roadside to finish the edges. Hoping to get that knocked out tomorrow.
And once I finish all edging I’ll need to scrape the fan free of its piles although I’m still not sure how it will come out. As soon as it’s free I’ll need to put something over that hole until I determine which I’ll use - rooftop AC (weighs 80lbs so definitely needs good support) or replacement fan (still have to replace the 2x4 supports but only weighs like 24lbs).
Then next week I’m hoping to start the paint on elastic sealant portion of this fun project. Yeah!
As soon as I finish Grace’s roof I’m moving over and doing something similar with Hope’s roof. Now that project seems daunting but with the Lord’s help and wisdom I will get it done!
