Grace Exposed
I did some work on Grace’s lower exterior today to prep for taking down the portable garage in anticipation of the worst months of hurricane season hitting Virginia. Looks like Ida might make it here before I’m really ready to be done with using the canopy so hopefully it won’t blow away before I can finish Grace exterior work. I still need to do the roof sealing/painting work and awning trim sealing. When the really strong winds hit there’s nothing much you can do except pray nothing gets damaged. I did remove the sidewalls from the portable garage and I’m planning to work on the roof next week, but I see there are five days of thunderstorms predicted in light of Ida headed our way. I’ve left the top but I may have to take that down too if Ida doesn’t get downgraded enough and then I’ll tarp the stuff inside Grace in anticipation of water leaks.
So I found the backing they used for covering the hot water heater opening. It is thin aluminum and cut up weirdly. The exterior replacement door I had ordered arrived with all kinds of pieces and only one was usable. It wasn’t even the correct door. I went and looked at my order from Walmart and found they sent me a different door then the pictured one I had ordered. Too much time has passed so I’ll hang onto it and try to use it on Hope later. I hung the backing and then taped over the entire area. It will stay that way until I find the correct door and finish the subfloor replacement.
I got the plug and cap on the curbside wall where the outside porch light goes. Not sure if I’ll truly reuse that plug or even that porch light, but I wanted no open holes in her skin so up it went. I also hung the eyebrow over the door with putty tape behind. I removed the storage eyebrow and rehung it with putty tape behind. And I taped over the opening that exists for the stove vent. The plastic vent I previously purchased is too small and not sturdy so I’ll keep thinking about that too. I put putty in the remaining small holes I found and I’ll need to go back and do a better bodywork job later. I still need to assess what all the things on the tongue are and how to restore, replace or repair them.
For today I’m done working outside on Grace. I’m soaked from the heat and humidity. Cody gets out of school soon and he will be here before I know it. I still have several chapters of 1 Timothy to read before I finished for today. And he’s off next week from school so it looks to be a wild time at the Morin household.
